Free business listings - who knew there were so many!!!

This week I have spent some time increasing my online presence, this includes adding free business listings to many many sites.

A few companies have offered to do this on my behalf they will update all sites in their directory list as once to save you the trouble, I have time to do this myself currently so opted to save the pennies and work through the list myself.

There are a few check your online reputation for free links (I used the one on yell.com screen shot below) this provides you with a list of places you have online visibility/listings.  It's a useful starting point!

Have to hand -
  • Your Business Name
  • Your Business Address
  • Your Business Phone Number
  • Your Business Email address
  • Your Business Website
  • Your Business Logo
  • A few images that relate to your business
  • A list of keywords relating to your business
  • A list of your services/products
  • Your Business price list
  • Your Business opening times
  • Your Business description (short version) 100 -150 characters
  • Your Business description (long version) over 150 characters
  • A short bio
  • A profile picture
  • Adverts for any promotions you currently have running
Not all listings will allow you to add all this information for free - some will try and charge, on these I suggest to stick to the free listing otherwise you will find yourself spending a fortune!!!!

Where should I add my business?

Social Media
  • Facebook
  • LinkedIN
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Youtube

Search Engines:
  • Google My Business - there are a lot of verification steps with this one so start here.  To verify your address, they send out a postcard with a code which obviously takes time to come.
  • Bing -

What I would call well known telephone directories (mainly because I remember getting books delivered many moons ago)
  • Yell
  • 192
  • Thomson Local
  • I am currently still looking for the free listing option in BT - so far have found options for premium entries only.
Newspaper directories:
  • Scoot - this covers The Daily Mirror, The Independent, The Sun and Touch Local
  • Central Index - this covers WalesOnline, The Scotsman, Daily Record, Evening Standard, Belfast News Letter, Hotfrog
Online Directories:
  • Cylex - this covers Cylex, Find Open
  • iGlobal
  • iBegin
  • TownPages.com
  • Yalwa
  • Opendi
  • Tupalo
  • Where To?
  • Infobel
  • AroundMe
  • ShowMeLocal
  • Citypages.net
  • Brownbook.net
  • Foursquare
  • InfoisInfo
  • My Local Services UK
  • Yelp
Free advertising sites:
  • Friday Ad
  • Fiverr
There is also a site Bizwiki (which includes Access Place), this site will find your business and list automatically - there is no option to submit your listing.

You need to register with each directory site before you can complete your listing, this means you should expect email validation requests for each entry!!!  They also send confirmation emails once your listing is "live".  (Don't forget to unsubscribe to future emails otherwise your inbox will be inundated!)
I advise you to complete as many entries as soon as possible (to allow for review time) for maximum visibility, remember as long as your details don't change you only have to do this once!

Set yourself 1.5 days to get these updated or better still send me the details and I can work through them for my day rate of £160 (excluding social media accounts), this will be a one off fee with no monthly commitments.

Improving your online presence is part of the SEO puzzle and I can't stress enough how important this is!

All I need now is some feedback from clients - this will further improve my SEO.

If you are a business owner and need advice about improving your SEO, I am happy to share the knowledge I have gained so far, drop me a message or give me a call - I am happy to share the knowledge!
